Well, I thought long and hard about what to write for my first blog, and I figured that blogging about my fall cruise to the Caribbean would be the least boring for people to read about, so here goes!
I had the awesome opportunity to go on an all-expenses-paid 4-night cruise to the Bahamas in November of 2008 thanks to my great boss. My roommate, Aubrey (who is also the other Assistant General Manager that I share an office with), was there with me which made an already-great experience so much better. Even though it was overcast most of the time, it still felt great to be away from work and life and out on the open ocean--I can't wait to go on another cruise!
The ocean and overcast skies were so gorgeous I just had to take a picture of them - for some reason this particular one reminds me of the scene in Princess Bride where they're being followed by Wesley and the shrieking eels part. It's a little lighter, but the way the sun is reflecting off the water reminds me of it still.
We took a ride in a glass-bottom boat where one of the locals insisted on taking me and Aubrey out to an "employees only" area to feed the fish and request that he be allowed to take us on a tour all around Nassau (which immediatley gave me images of girls on vacations being kidnapped by locals, so I kindly refused). I'm sure he was a nice guy just talking to us since we were the only people under the age of 60 on the boat tour...I can't help it if my biggest fear is fish and I had no desire to actually get IN the water to see them.
I was so proud of myself for taking this shot the very second the bird flew into it. I was really only aiming for the lighthouse in Nassau, but I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at the shot and realized I'd captured the bird as well.
My proof that towel animals are not just a thing of myths and fairy tales.
Safety First. Luckily, this normally boring drill was made more entertaining due to the drunken guy that Aubrey and I were next to (I guess he was allowed to be completely hammered at 3pm since it WAS a vacation...?)
Me and Aubrey about to head up to the club since we were the only single people in our group, and therefore the only people not going straight to bed the first night haha.
Me and Aubrey on the beach. Poor Aubrey had to go snorkeling by herself (I believe I mentioned my fear of fish?) while I took a nap on the beach directly next to the beer cart haha. Whoever decided that alcohol and sun go together was seriously misguided.
